Tips speaking tham khảo của một bạn

Xin chào cả nhà, mình vừa nhận kết quả thi IELTS trên máy tính thi vào ngày 31/8 vừa rồi và mình muốn chia sẻ nội dung bài thi Speaking 8.0 tới các bạn, đặc biệt là những ai đang kẹt ở band 7 hoặc 7.5 và muốn bứt phá- điều mà mình cũng loay hoay cải thiện suốt 2 năm nay. Mình cũng chia sẻ luôn những tips mình áp dụng để nâng band điểm, hi vọng sẽ phần nào hỗ trợ mọi người trong quá trình tự học nhé!

1. PART 1: WORK + ADVERTISEMENT + WATCH

- WORK

Do you work or are you a student?

Currently, I’m full-timing as an English teacher, and I’ve been doing so for around 5 years.

Why do you like this job?

For the most part, pursuing the teaching career is rewarding to me, in a sense that I can impart the knowledge and ignite my students’ passion in studying English. On top of that, it just allows me a handsome remuneration, sosuch a financial incentive is a great perk to me.

Have you always wanted to do this job?

To be perfectly honest with you, my initial major at the university was Marketing, and I used to work as a copywriter in an advertising agency for 2 years upon graduation. However, I then realized that I was not cut out for the creative industry, so I switched to pursue a teaching career andto tell you the truth, I can’t imagine myself being happier doing anything else.

Do you like advertisement?

I used to, back in the time I was still working in that industry. However, now I have to admit that being bombarded with mushrooming adverts, I’ve grown out of watching commercials since they are too intrusiveand annoying for me.

What kinds of advertisement you don’t like?

I can’t stand something that is violent or provocative. As for the former, I firmly believe that they do harm to children who are still impressionable and vulnerable to brutal scenes. And regarding the latter, it’s just, you know extremely degrading for women to be portrayed and presented in such a negative light. So both of these types disgust me.

- WATCH

Do you wear a watch now?

I used to but I’m not doing so now, since my phone always comes in handy to tell the time as well as a trillion other things, so having a time piece is no longer necessary for me.

Have you ever received a watch as a gift?

It has been a distant memory, but I still remember vividly that I got my first time-keeper around 10 years ago in my 18th birthday, when my mom giftedme a Casio automatic one with a black leather strap. Until now, I’m still keeping it in my little secret box for its immense sentimental value to me.

Có 3 nội dung chị muốn lưu ý với mọi người để nâng band điểm cho phần Speaking Part 1: từ vựng chủ đề + ngữ pháp linh hoạt + từ nối liên kết ý.

Từ vựng: về từ vựng, tụi em cần tra cứu các từ đồng nghĩa để tránh lặp lại từ trong câu hỏi (Ví dụ hỏi về work thì đừng dùng lại chữ work mà hãy dung full-time as, hỏi về advertisement thì từ đồng nghĩa có thể là commercial/ advert, hỏi về watch em có time piece hoặc time-keeper) Những nội dung này em có thể tra cứu trên mạng rất nhiều để mở rộng rộng vốn từ nhé. Từ vựng hay không nhất thiết phải đao to búa lớn mà đúng chủ đề và có sự kết hợp đặc sắc (Ví dụ từ believe bản thân là một từ rất quen thuộc, nhưng khi em kết hợp cụm firmly believe thì collocation này lại ăn điểm)

Ngữ pháp linh hoạt: về ngữ pháp, chủ điểm dễ sử dụng và đa dạng nhất là kết hợp nhiều thì trong một câu trả lời (có 3 thì chị hay sử dụng là thì đơn – tiếp diễn – và hiện tại hoàn thành). Việc linh hoạt các thì thể hiện cho giám khảo mức độ tự nhiên và nhuần nhuyễn của người nói tiếng Anh.

Từ nối liên kết ý: trong quá trình nói, thay vì chỉ dùng câu đơn, em hãy dung các từ “And”/ “So”/ “Since”/ “Because” để nối ý tạo flow liên kết, giúp câu trả lời suôn sẻ và liên mạch nhé. Đây là một mấu chốt rất lớn cho các bài band điểm cao đó.

2. PART 2: DESCRIBE A TIME YOU HELPED A CHILD

Phần 2 này thì chị đã thay đổi cách tiếp cận đề: thứ nhất, có phần Intro tình cảm và khá story-telling một tẹo, thay vì nhào vào trực tiếp theo kiểu Today I would like to tell you about … (cách này phù hợp các bạn band tầm 5.5-6 vì đơn giản dễ dung); thứ hai, chị không nói theo 4 gợi ý trong đề mà tự phiêu theo mạch câu chuyện (cách này giúp tụi em linh hoạt, không bị gò bó theo khuôn khổ đề thi); cuối cùng, chị cũng chưa kịp hoàn thành phần kết luận vì đang mải phiêu theo đề (nhưng không sao vì giám khảo sẽ hỏi em thêm câu phụ để make sure ý tưởng em có cơ hội được trình bày hết). Và đây là bài thi của chị nhé,

- INTRO KỂ CHUYỆN XÍU NÈ: Since I was a little girl, my parents have always stressed to me how crucial it is to spread kindness and altruism to the world, so I have always tried my best to offer as much help as possible to people around. When it comes to this topic, then, the first occasion that springs to my mind is a time around 10 years ago when I helped a child find her lost parents.

- BODY TẬP TRUNG KỂ THEO TRÌNH TỰ THỜI GIAN: I still remember vividly that it took place in a summer holiday when I was sunbathing on the beach and suddenly caught sight of a little girl sobbing in the corner. As the beach was fully packed with tourists, no one every paid any attention to the faint crying sound of the poor girl, so I approached her and tried to help her out. Panicking, the girl told me that she lost her parents while chasing after an ice-cream vendor, and she had been trying to look around without spotting them. I guessed she had been crying for nearly 1 hour since she looked pale in tears, so I first bought her a coconut refreshment to calm her down. Unfortunately, as she was too small to be able to give me a detailed physical description of her parents, finding them was indeed an uphill struggle.

- ĐANG PHIÊU TỚI ĐÂY THÌ HẾT GIỜ HUHU NÊN GIÁM KHẢO HỎI CHỊ CÂU PHỤ NÈ: Do you often help children?

- VÀ ĐÂY LÀ CÁCH CHỊ TRẢ LỜI: Well, not much, I mean due to the nature of my job, I do not interact with a lot of children on a daily basis. But occasionally, I also help children to cross the street or lend them my phone to contact their parents.

- TIPS: Tương tự như Part 1, hãy cố gắng tập trung vào 3 nội dung chính yếu khi nói là từ vựng, ngữ pháp và tính liên kết. Đặc biệt, tụi em nên kể theo trình tự thời gian nếu gặp các đề kể chuyện để giám khảo dễ theo dõi ý mình bằng cách thêm từ nối chỉ thời gian như First/ Then/ Finally. Và nếu lỡ không hoàn thành xong bài thì cũng đừng hoảng loạn nha, miễn em thể hiện tốt thì điểm mình vẫn ổn em nha.

3. PART 3: VOLUNTEERING

Phần này hỏi đáp như WT2 vậy, vì giám khảo muốn được nghe quan điểm của mình về đề tài xã hội, nên em có thể xây dựng câu trả lời như một bài viết ngắn có các mặt On the one hand/ On the other hand nhé. May mắn đề Volunteering này hôi bữa chị đã làm một đề WT2 tương tự, nên có sẵn bụng ý tưởng để chém gió. Giám khảo hỏi 3 câu, nhưng chị demo một câu đầu tiên cho tụi em hình dung nha.

Who do you think benefit from volunteering activities: the volunteer or the society?

Well, from my perspective, both the volunteers and the beneficiaries reap the reward (Câu này đưa quan điểm như Intro của Writing nhé)

On the one hand, as for the volunteer, by helping others in need, they certainly have a sense of appreciation for how lucky they are in this life. For example, when teenagers go to underprivileged areas and donate clothes or money to poverty-stricken people, they will realize their current living condition is worth cherishing. (Phần này như Body 1, nói về mặt đầu tiên của Volunteer)

On the other hand, in terms of the society, although most impoverished people cannot be lifted out of poverty immediately, receiving altruistic support from the community does motivate them to live, since they do not feel left out in this world. So they gain benefits from volunteering activities as well (Phần này như Body 2, nói về mặt thứ hai của Society)

TIPS: Với chị phần này mục tiêu của giám khảo, ngoài chấm điểm từ vựng, ngữ pháp và kĩ năng giao tiếp, họ còn muốn kiểm tra khả năng phản biện và tư duy của em, nên hãy cố gắng mở rộng câu trả lời, nhìn nhận 2 mặt để có một câu trả lời dài hơi và đầy đủ. Tụi em cứ tự do đưa quan điểm, càng giải thích kĩ và lập luận rõ ràng, phần này điểm càng tốt.
