All Passengers Rescued After Japan Airlines Plane Caught Fire Upon Landing In Tokyo

All passengers on board a Japan Airlines aircraft were rescued after it was engulfed in flames upon landing at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, preventing what could have been a deadly disaster.

According to Japanese public broadcaster NHK, the plane caught fire after it collided with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft upon landing.

In a statement to NHK, Japan Airlines said all 379 passengers and crew were successfully evacuated, although the aircraft was still in flames.

Six crew members were reportedly on board the Coast Guard plane, which was set to fly to the west coast city of Niigata to assist with earthquake relief.

One crew member was successfully evacuated by rescuers but the condition of the other five individuals is unknown.

All runways at the Haneda Airport were closed after the collision.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s office issued instructions to relevant authorities to investigate the incident, assess the damages and “provide timely and accurate information to the public.”
