Housing Policies for First-Year Students

All first-year students are required to live in campus dorms. The only exception to this rule applies to students who live within a 20-mile radius of the university. In accordance with affirmative action standards, roommate assignments are made with no consideration to race, religion, or national origin. The university will consider roommate requests for first-year students but strongly discourages two students from the same high school requesting to live together. A residence contract must be read, signed, and submitted by students before they receive dormitory and roommate assignments.


Since the university views community dining as an integral part of the residential campus experience, freshmen are encouraged to dine in assigned dining halls; however, students may bring their own mini refrigerators and microwaves to use in their rooms.


As with all campus buildings, smoking and illegal drugs are prohibited in all dormitories. Alcohol is strictly prohibited in all first-year housing.
