 Taking an X-Ray


1. Explain the procedure to the patient. Make sure the patient removes all jewelry and other articles that the x-rays cannot pass through.

2. Position the patient on the x-ray table so that the part of the body that needs to be imaged is facing the x-ray apparatus.

3. Lay protective matting over the areas of the patient's body that are not being x-rayed. Leave the part to be imaged exposed.

4. Position the x-ray machine over the part of the body to be imaged. Place the apparatus at the correct height and angle over the body.

5. Use the tape to measure the thickness of the part of the body to be x-rayed. Adjust the controls on the x-ray machine to produce images having the correct density, detail, and contrast.

6. Place the x-ray film under the exposed part of the body to be imaged.

7. Go into the control room, close the door, and activate the control that takes the x-ray image.

8. Remove and develop the film. When it is done, take it to the radiologist.
