Re: Stress

Please know that the supervisors and administrators of our agency are well aware of the high stress level associated with careers in social work. Many social workers experience stress due to heavy caseloads, long and unpredictable hours, insufficient service resources for your clients, low salary, and other factors. High stress levels can cause fatigue, psychological problems, sleep disorders, and cardiovascular problems.

For that reason, we are happy to offer a complimentary stress-reduction program. The program is run by specialists at Lytle University but will be held at our agency. This eight-week course begins on April 26 at 7:00 p.m. It assures improvement in the well-being of participants. The program teaches coping skills as well as relaxation techniques.

A recent survey conducted by the National Association of Social Workers details several methods of stress reduction. Social workers acknowledge the use of exercise (75%), meditation (35%), therapy (30%), prescription medication (24%), drinking of alcohol (18%), and not reporting to work (8%) to reduce stress. Obviously, not all of these techniques are recommended or acceptable by us. We invite you to join the Lytle program to find the stress-reduction methods that best meet your overall health needs.

For more information or to enroll in the program, please contact Chris Bedford at x352.
